During Covid, five churches in Southeast Wisconsin yoked together to start a garden in order to feed those who live in food desert areas in Milwaukee.  It was in response to the Presbytery of Milwaukee–PC(USA)–becoming a Matthew 25 Presbytery where Jesus tells us to care for those in need within our communities.  The leaders of the five churches decided we could do more working together than individually, and it would be more enjoyable.

Our main goal is to grow fresh produce and distribute it in food desert areas, all done by volunteers.  But we also had a broader goal to spread the ancient concept of Shalom and see how far it could go.  Shalom is a broad word meaning peace, wholeness, wellness, completeness, harmony, welfare, prosperity, tranquility, and if one person doesn’t have it, then nobody has it.  We encourage all those working in the garden to think in this way.  As a result we bless our communities beyond just the produce we provide.
