On Wednesday, October 6 from noon to 4 PM, the seamstresses of Little Dresses for Africa will convene to sew various items for various organizations, both locally and globally that are in need of such things. Some of their most recent projects include children’s pillow cases for Children’s Hospital and Family Promise, washable and reusable feminine sanitary products for women in parts of the world where they are hard to come by, and of course dresses and PJs for children in orphanages globally. All levels of sewing ability are welcome. They will teach you what you don’t know! For more information, contact Betty Tills.
The Food for the Journey Community Garden continues to harvest and distribute good, healthy food to people in need. We’re always looking for more volunteers to weed, water, drive and distribute our food! We were highlighted in the Presbytery of Milwaukee’s quarterly meeting of the presbytery, and invited more churches to join us in our effort. As we go into the winter, the garden board will look into creating more educational materials for congregations, as well as working on preserving our crops for winter months! As this project continues to expand and grow, we will tap into many different sets of talents! Look out for your opportunity to get involved! If you’re interested in helping, contact Lori Petersen or Pastor Nikki.
As we did last year, Sunday School will take place at 11AM every other Sunday on Zoom. The 2021/2022 school year’s theme is the Armor of God and there will be lots of fun activities and illustrations included that children can do at home with their families. Everyone is looking forward to getting DPC’s children back into our Sunday school classrooms, when they are able to recieve a vaccine. Here are the dates of the upcoming sessions:
- September 26
- October 10
- October 24
For more information, contact Patti Rojas, Lori Petersen or Candy Morakinyo.
Recently, Pastor Nikki accepted a Treasures of the Church Award from the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Milwaukee. She accepted the award on the behalf of a multi-church, ecumenical anti-human trafficking organization that DPC has been instrumental in founding.
On October 17, the Treasures of the Church Award will make its way to DPC and will displayed here for 3 weeks before traveling to other churches involved in this effort. Come and see the award, which is a drawing specially commissioned by Archbishop Jerome Listecki!
On Sunday, October 10, DPC & KMUPC’s joint handbell choir will ring for a prelude and special music at DPC. Come and enjoy our combined talents!
Sunday, October 3, is World Communion Sunday! This is a day when we celebrate our connection to people all over the world. To celebrate the day, DPC is having a special service with dramatic readings and other surprises! Don’t miss out!
Due to evolving scheduling with the Milwaukee Presbytery, starting on Tuesday September 28, Pastor Nikki’s office hours will change from being on Wednesdays from 2-5:30 PM to being on Tuesdays at the same time. She will continue to hold office hours for one hour after the church service on Sundays as well. These are times when you’re invited to drop by to see Pastor Nikki without making an appointment. If you would like to see her at another time, simply call, text or email her to set up an appointment!
We can all say that these past two years have been interesting ones. We have learned a lot about each other and ourselves. Forgot about the freshman 10, it is COVID 20. Forget about Spring Cleaning, it is more like a deep clean that makes you feel like a hoarder.
Back in 2020, we were going to try to have Rummage sale to raise money for the church and the different places that we donate to. Well this year we are actually going to have this Rummage Sale.
Good Condition or gently loved Rummage sale items can NOW be delivered to the church, put it in the foyer’s main entrance, bigger items can go in the fellowship area proper. The last day to accept rummage items is September 6th
We will also be having a bake sale; there will be a sign up sheet and placed on the bulletin board. Just sing up and give us an idea of what you might bring.
We are asking that you price your items ahead of time. If they are already boxed from last time or you are just horrible at it. Do not worry we will have some people that will do that if need be.
Please sign up at https://www.signupgenius.com/go/30E0B4AAAA82FA4F58-rummage for a spot to help. If you are not techsavvy and wish to sign up, contact chrys and she will help. If you have, any question please contact, Jessica Driscoll, Carol Buech, or Chrys Gregoire.
DPC is hosting an event to celebrate the repayment of our mortgage on Friday, September 17 from 6:00-8:00pm!
All of our current members are invited to join us, and we’ll also be joined by representatives of the Presbytery of Milwaukee, and folks who have helped to pay for DPC’s beautiful education wing.
Light refreshments will be served. You should receive an invitation by email. You’re asked to RSVP through the email invitation.
In conjunction with this event, DPC will have a small silent auction. And we are looking for donations from YOU!
If you’d like to donate or volunteer to help make this event happen, please talk to Pam Angst or Doug Lurvey.
Vespers on Nagawicka Lake!
